The People's Deputies of Ukraine needed just 12 minutes in order to "entomb" the last hope of average Ukrainians and the international community that Ukrainian authorities would once start real fight against corruption. In the country, which occupies last places in all the possible corruption ratings, this fight has finished without having actually started. Anti-corruption laws, which coming into force had been put off during the last one and a half years, were finally abolished on the 21st of December by vote of 263 People's Deputies. It's interesting to notice that the content of the abolished laws isn't so much different from the bill of anti-corruption law, which has been recently introduced to the Parliament by the President of Ukraine. It turns out that having abolished anti-corruption laws and having put under consideration the similar law from Viktor Yanukovich, People's Deputies took fright of their own shadow.

Якщо незалежні медіа в Україні й існують, то, здебільшого, серед «жовтої преси». А вона аж ніяк не може виступати гарантією того, що влада в державі буде підзвітною та здатною ефективно протидіяти корупції. Такого висновку дійшли учасники відкритої дискусії «Для чого українським медіа незалежність? Запитання, породжене українською корупцією», що відбулася 20 жовтня цього року у Києві. Дискусію організувало Творче об'єднання «ТОРО» (Контактна група в Україні Transparency International) в партнерстві з Інститутом розвитку регіональної преси (ІРРП) та за участі провідних вітчизняних медіа-експертів.
