The 22nd of April 2008 became the final point in the anticorruption campaign, which lasted for several months and was conducted by Creative Union "Technologeis of Optimum Personality Development" in the 5 higher educational establishments of Kirovohrad. Based on its results it was defined, which of the parnter-universities (State Flight Academy of Ukraine, Kirovohrad Vynnychenko State Pedagogical University, Kirovohrad Commerce Institute, Kirovohrad Regional Management and Economics Institute, Kirovohrad National Technical University) earns the status "The university of public trust", as the least corrupted university of the city.
TORO anti-corruption initiative took place in the framework of the project "Space, free from corruption", the main aim of which was to form among the students of partner-universities intolerable attitude to corruption and define through rating voting "The University of Public Trust". With this aim TORO formed the team of 30 students, who maintained the work of mobile units "Space, free from corruption" from January to April 2008.
Volunteer students spread information materials of anti-corruption content and conducted rating contest "The University of Public Trust". The activists collected from the students special applications with the data on teachers who earn public trust and exchanged them for badges "I don't take bribes" and gave them to the selected teachers. Besides, all the interested could vote for the least corrupted university and in case of necessity got a free consultation from the qualified attorney. People could also vote via Internet on the TORO site http://www.toro.org.ua/poll/.
The results of the campaign surprised not only the participants, but also the organizers. In each partner university the teachers, who the students trust most of all, were defined. The representatives of administration of 2 universities also got in the list, among them the ex-rector of pedagogical university Oleh Polyarush and vice-rector of the Regional Management and Economics Institute Valentyna Erniyazova. The winners in the nomination "University patriots" became State flight academy (100% of the students of the academy voted for their own university as the least corrupted). "The best organization of the campaign" - Regional Management and Economics Institute (the university, where both the students and the administration conducted anti-corruption campaign); "Students in action" - Kirovohrad National Technical University (the most active work of the students anti-corruptionists); "Teachers who got trust" - Kirovohrad Institute of Commerce (the biggest percentage of the votes given for the teachers); "The university of public trust" - Kirovohrad Vynnychenko State Pedagogical University (for the biggest amount of votes from the students of other universities and the community of Kirovohrad).
TORO decided to continue the campaign as the single winner hasn't been chosen. With this aim, the activists of the organization will conduct public monitoring of the entrance commissions of the universities, which will help define the least corrupted university of the city.
The project "Space, free from corruption 2008" is held in the framework of the national project "Assistance in active participation of citizens in corruption fight in Ukraine "Hidna Ukraine" (www.action-msi.org.ua), which is conducted by Management Systems International company with the financial support of USAID and Corporation "Millennium Challenges".
