TI Czech Republic will expand the public control in Kirovohrad region

Civil society activists of the Kirovohrad region will control the conduction of consultations with civil society during the decision-making by authorities; the experts of Transparency International Czech Republic will assist them and the local authorities will provide with information. Those results were achieved during the round table composing of civil society activists, authority’s representatives and experts from Transparency International Czech Republic, on the 15th of July 2010.

The occasion for the meeting was the conclusion of the first step of public control at the district level in the Kirovohrad region. During this period, 40 activists had attended a profound training and implemented a civic expertise on the state policy assistance in developing of civil society in 10 districts of the region. The biggest interest and a vivid discussion during the round table were induced by the presentation of the expertise’s results and of the interacting state between the authorities and the civil society.

“The conducted expertise was a kind of litmus paper, which allowed diagnosing civil society activists as well as the local authority in their ability to implement a systematic public monitoring on the regional level” – commented the vice-president of the Creative Union “TORO”, Alla Voloshyna.  With the support of the international best practice, the identified problems and the impediments which disturb public control in the Kirovohrad region will be eliminated. Therefore, the experienced experts in public monitoring and defense of public interests – TI Czech Republic, were invited to participate in this event.

By sharing their experiences and commenting their Ukrainian colleagues, Czech experts noted that the public control is the most efficient method to improve the state institutions. In addition to that, the international guests did non confine themselves to the comments but also assured their support for the activists of the Kirovohrad region in conducting public control on consultations with civil society by making of authority’s decision. This exact activity is envisaged by the new initiative of the event organizers – Creative Union ‘TORO”. The participants of the round table agreed on expanding public control in the Kirovohrad region, though for each participant got a special role in this process.  In this way, civil activists will conduct monitoring, experts of TI Czech Republic will support them and the local authority provide with information and assistance.
